Alan Franco was a Canadian journalist who covered the Olympic Games for over four decades. He was known as the "International Man of Sport" because he traveled to every major international sporting event, from the Olympics to the World Cup.
Franco was born in 1928 in Quebec City, Canada. He started his career in journalism at age 15, working for the Montreal Star newspaper. In 1947, he moved to London, England, where he worked as a sports reporter for the Daily Express and the Sunday Express newspapers.
In 1966, Franco joined the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and became the first Canadian sports correspondent. He covered the Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Tokyo,Campeonato Brasileiro Action Rome, and Munich, among other events. During his time with the CBC, Franco also wrote books about sports and traveled to cover events such as the World Cup, the Tour de France, and the Winter Olympics.
In 1990, Franco retired from his job as a sports journalist, but continued to write books and give speeches about sports. He died in 2014 at the age of 85.
